How Your Job Is Making You Sick
6
So it’s friday and you’re just waiting for that clock to hit 5. You got plans to get a few drinks with some friends to celebrate a new weekend away from the workplace. You enjoy both friday and saturday with some R&R.
Then sunday comes along and that pit in your stomach is bigger than ever because you know tomorrow it’s time to get back to work and do the same thing all over again. If this sounds like a weekend for you, then trust me when I say I feel your pain.
Now I don’t mean to offend anyone. If you love your job and don’t mind the daily grind that comes with it, then more power to you. But if you are like a lot of people, it’s easy to see how your job is making you sick. But how do you know?
Lack of Sleep
Not getting enough sleep during the night is a great way to get your day started off on the wrong foot. In order for you to be at your best, you need to feel fresh and ready to go. Too many times I hear people say they didn’t get a good night’s rest and unfortunately have no idea why.
A lot of the times it’s due to having so much on the mind. Maybe you have a friend or family member you’re worried about. Or maybe you’re in a relationship that just isn’t going well. For a lot of people, being overwhelmed at work is a huge reason for it.
I know for myself, when I used to work in an office and had a lot of work to do. If I wasn’t able to get that work done, mentally I would bring my work home with me thus causing me to not be able to sleep well. I’m sure this is the case for many others.
No Motivation
One of the biggest reason for many not being able to get into shape is due to lack of motivation. We’re so busy with work, we use that as an excuse not to take care of ourselves physically.
Not realizing that this lack of motivation can lead to unhappiness. Which can lead to poor eating habits and having you not feel great about yourself.
Sometimes all it takes is finding out your why, and it could be the boost you’re looking for. You can read an article on my Top 10 Motivation and Fitness Tips to help get you started.
Poor Eating Habits
There’s no better place to pick up poor eating habits than at work. For some reason it always seems to be someone’s birthday, which means cakes, candy and whole bunch of other poor decisions that are waiting to be consumed.
Eating these type of foods are doing your body no good. Unless you are consistently eating healthy on a daily basis, it’s important to be able to resist the temptation and just say no.
Finding healthy snack alternatives is key to making sure you are staying focused on your health and fitness goals.
Always Getting Sick
Getting sick due to the weird change of weather is one thing, getting sick due to stress, is another. Stress is a very powerful force that can turn the healthiest person, into someone that always finds themselves with some type of ailment.
Every other month there’s something new and you’re too afraid to take time off of work, which is making it difficult for your body to heal itself. Therefore you have to take all types of over-the-counter drugs just to help get you through the day.
What To Do About It?
So how do we avoid letting our job make us sick? Well you could just quit, but then that wouldn’t be very responsible. My advice would be to make proper diet and exercise a priority in your life.
All it takes is making good food choices and taking 3 hours out of your week to exercise and build up your body.I know how difficult it can be when you’re always tired and not happy, but you will be amazed at how much better you will feel after you make these commitments.
Find a friend or find a place where there is a community of people trying to accomplish the same things you are. It may be the push you need to help build a healthier you.Well I hope you enjoyed this article.
Please feel free to share your thoughts on how you are working towards building healthier and stronger body.

Hi Gareth, usually when I’m struggling to sleep, it usually is because I have many things on my mind. Sometimes I have to tell myself ok it’s time to shut off. But I know for sure when I used to work at my office job, I would worry about work I had to get done when I get in and sleep was definitely a struggle. I’m really glad you enjoyed this article.

I couldn’t agree more with a job making you sick. It’s stress and can be total misery. Unless you have a job that you love and that pays you very well, you’re just spinning your wheels. I’ve been there. You get the Monday blues on Sunday. It’s never ending. Find the job you love and you’ll become healthier, body and mind.

I agree Rob! I take my health very serious and I know all to well from being around others how stressing over a job can make you sick. That’s why it’s important to prioritize what matters to you most, and that’s your health.
