Who's ready to get their OM on?

By Team Triple White • 3 years ago • HEALTH & FITNESS, STYLE

As you probably know by now, #MAKEMAYFIT is an initiative we’ve come up with to help motive and inspire you to get up and get moving in the month of May! To help us on our mission, we’re calling on some of our fittest friends in the biz and when it comes to yoga, who better to turn to than Kate Kendall? Over the next four weeks expect to see exclusive yoga flows and expert tips, plus an edit of her favourite studio styles designed to have you looking as good as you’ll feel. But first thing’s first, let’s get to know a little bit about Kate!

Where did your love for yoga stem from?

I knew there was something about it from my very first class after which I was walking home and literally stopped in my tracks to notice what was happening in my body. For the first time in a really long time I could ‘feel’. I felt really emotional. And this was key for me because for many years prior I had been numb through depression. So even though the emotions were confusing me, they were stirring something that been fairly dormant for a long time.

How would you best describe your overall health and fitness philosophy?
Listen to your body. And this, for most people, requires some re-training. Many of us have been told from a young age what’s right or wrong for us so we tend to lose the ability to ‘listen’ and that’s why yoga and mindfulness are so relevant. They give us the skills to slow down and hear what’s really going on in the body. Sure – there are times for doctors and modern medicine but a lot of the time we’re giving our power away. Your body is so intelligent. It will tell you when to exercise, eat, sleep and rest. This is one of the reasons I developed, The Space Between – my 4 week mindfulness course created from my philosophy of the same name. The Space Between course is designed to help participants reprioritise and take action to start living with productivity and purpose. It’s all about learning how to slow down and live more fully.

What do you most enjoy about yoga?
The space is creates mentally and physically.

Describe your typical day on a plate?

  • Early to rise: sip on water before and after meditation and yoga practice. Bullet proof coffee!
  • Breakfast: a smoothie with avo, berries, coconut water, almond milk and some sort of superfood powder – my favourites are the Blackmores Matcha Green Tea and the Vitality Super Greens
  • Lunch: the ‘Zen Bowl’ from Orchard Street with a Recovery Tonic (alkaline water, hydration elixir, charcoal, lemon and triphala)
  • Afternoon snack: Handful of nuts
  • Dinner: steamed veg and fish with a few slices of melon and/or dark chocolate)

Do you have a mantra that you live by?
“Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen.”

What are some things people may not know about you?

  • I grew up in a small country town in Southern NSW famous for apples called Batlow
  • I love lemon squash and a now mostly tamed weakness for sesame snaps
  • My favourite yoga pose is Pigeon Pose because it’s one of the rare moments in my day where it’s just me and the breath
  • Favourite thing to do on a Friday night is feet up on couch watching the Rugby League with a glass of Shiraz and a bowl of steamed veg with hummus and avo stirred through

The first thing I do when I wake up is… Drink some water and then meditate.

On a Sunday you’ll find me… In nature.

I can’t go a day without… A hug.

My favourite place in the world is… Can I have two? Kauai and Queenstown.

I’m most inspired by… Anyone who is themselves. Unashamedly.

Stay tuned for more to come by Kate!
