This Smartphone-Sized Beauty Case Is Changing The Makeup Game
I’m not sure what happens to my handbag over time. Somewhere along the way, it turns into bottomless black hole, home to all the things I need (and puh-lenty of things I don’t), but can never find at the time that I need it. Classic.
And when it comes to stashing makeup in there? Well, I had all but given up. Besides the fact that it is a screening of Mission Impossible every time I dive in there to retrieve a compact or concealer (cue music), the number of times my liquid foundation has spilt or face cream has somehow burst open, well, I don’t even want to count!
So, having given up on loose makeup floating around and bulky beauty cases taking up space (honestly, if I could get away with not carrying a bag at all, I would, never mind a bag within a bag!), I was intrigued when I came across Aussie brand Pressplay Cosmetics‘ smartphone-sized beauty capsule.
Of course, in the world of beauty, things are often better than they look… so I knew I had to put it to the test – and test I did! Check out my breakdown below to see for yourself:
Tried-and-tested: Pressplay Cosmetics Beauty Capsule

In a nutshell, it’s a chic, smartphone-sized (think around the size of a Samsung Galaxy Note 8) capsule that holds up to seven beauty products.
Currently available in black or white with a luxe gold trim, the capsule features a lid that conceals six slots at the top, each designed to hold the ultra sleek products in the range (including a very streamlined face cream tube) while the bottom boasts a mini compartment that contains a mirror and space for the brand’s carefully designed powders.
It’s lightweight and comes with soft, branded slip case and looks ridiculously glam being pulled out of a handbag or clutch.
Think of it like a luxurious, customisable hotel suite for your makeup (without the luxury hotel pricetag!). The case retails for AUD $39.00, while all the cosmetics and skincare fall in the AUD $19.00 to $39.00 range. There are 27 products in the range, with a fragrance in the works as well, and everything has been strategically sized to slot neatly into the capsule.
My decision to try it out wasn’t so much to replace my other makeup so much as to complement my faves with some speedy, on-the-go ease, so I checked out the site and filled my capsule with the products I find that I use the most on-the-go.
This included two ‘face paints’ (that have been designed to work for both lips and cheeks), a face cream (which has a lovely, cucumber-y scent), a mascara, a liquid eyeliner, a brow pen and of course, translucent powder.

I’ll be real with you, I had fairly low expectations of the makeup itself because this case just looked way too good to be true, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the products. After a little more research into the brand, it all made a lot more sense. The brand was founded by Kate Flammea, a beauty therapist and skincare specialist with over ten years in the industry, and the majority of the range is made in cosmetic laboratories in Italy, Germany and Australia. Another big plus? Everything is cruelty-free!
In terms of the stuff I tried, I found that the face paints were highly pigmented but lightweight with a smooth matte finish that didn’t dry out, thanks to the hydrating Vitamin E content. Given the extremity of the colour, I would use a very small amount of product when applying it as a cheek tint or contour.
Although I didn’t have time to do multiple coats to boost thickness, the Christopher Mascara, did give me really lovely, long lashes and did not give me any grief when it was time to wash it off.
Their website says ‘A little Louis goes a long way’ and the Louis Face Creamwas probably my favourite of the bunch! It had a soothing, cucumber scent and the ingredients include sweet almond oil, shea butter, macadamia oil, lavender oil and among other nourishing components.
The Leonardo Translucent Powder was excellent as well, lasting all day and combating the usual oily T-zone that starts to appear in the afternoon.
I have got to give this beauty capsule full marks! It legitimately does what it sets out to do: it fits in my day-to-day handbag, the majority of my clutches, keeps everything neatly contained (no more spilt makeup, yay!) and really gives a feeling of luxury without having to fork out a small fortune.
I understand that if you are really particular about your makeup, the idea of trying a new brand might be daunting, but it’s pretty evident that just as much care has been gone into the development and quality of the cosmetics as the design and aesthetics of the beauty capsule.
Personally, I would treat this as my strictly on-the-go beauty case, so I don’t run out of my usual products and ‘special’ makeup, while still getting a high quality fix for those quick touch-ups before meetings or en route to brunch after barre. Perfection.
