Causes of Gangrene according to Ayurveda

There are two types of gangrene- one is dry gangrene that occurs when the supply to the tissue is cut off. This causes the area to become dry and black. The other type of gangrene is wet gangrene, which is caused due to bacterial infection. Gangrene usually happens when something blocks blood flow to a certain area and causes your tissue to dry up. This tissue often falls off and can even affect the other parts of the body if left untreated.

According to Ayurveda, gangrene is called Kotha. It is caused due to the imbalance of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas. It causes discolouration of the skin, foul-smelling discharge, swelling, and pain in the infected tissues. The treatment for gangrene in Ayurveda aims to manage this problem with the help of powerful Ayurvedic herbs that can provide relief from swelling and pain in the tissues.
